Parent-Child ProgramsThe YMCA is the place to join your neighbors and
make new friends! Enjoy time together as a family in both structured
and recreational programs. Parents and kids have fun, build bonds and
develop friendships participating in sports, camping and community
activities.
The Parent-Child Program is designed for parents and their children to
spend more quality time with each other. In these programs Parents and
their children are divided up into small age-appropriate,
geographically desirable groups called Circles. Each Circle meets once
a month at a Circle member's home. Circle meetings consist of games,
stories, arts & crafts, and relationship building. All of the
Circle groups make up an Expedition. Once a month there are large
events for the Expedition, such as campouts, pinewood derby's, bowling
parties, and family picnics.
The objectives of the program is to foster companionship and
understanding and set a foundation for positive, lifelong relationships
between parent and child, enhance the quality of family time, emphasize
the vital role that parents play in growth and development of their
children, and expand awareness of body, mind, and spirit. There are several groups available:
Little Guides Dads/Moms and their children 3 & 4 years-old
Adventure Guides for Dads/Moms and their children K-2nd grades
-Divided into 2 groups based on your city
-Explorers: Torrance, Redondo Beach, Lomita, Harbor City
-Voyagers: Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach
Trail Blazers for Dads/Moms and sons/daughters 3rd-5th grades
Pathfinders for Dads/Moms and sons/daughters ages 6th-8th grades
